Once these facets were in place, I began the fun of experimentation. I started taking orders and filling them out of my tiny West Village apartment. I insisted performing all tasks on my own, from baking to delivery. My first holiday season was quite an experience and one in which friends and family had a hand in. My Mom helped me bake, my friends helped me deliver and I, of course, wondered what I had gotten myself into. The second holiday season was doubly as busy and after using my own and a friend’s apartment to bake, wrap and pack over seven hundred pounds of cookies, I quickly decided it was time to give One Girl Cookies some room to grow. I rented professional kitchen space and the process of looking for a professional baker began. Little did I know what I was in for…
…What am I in for?I had given working in midtown Manhattan a fair shake, but the experience had left me cold. I decided to change my life and return to the kitchen. Years ago, I had learned the art of bread baking in a bakery in Virginia. This was my introduction to the pleasures of baking. The delicious taste of fresh bread, right from the oven, baked by my own hands is a memory I will never forget. My career path led me away from baking for a few years, but I never forgot the joy and satisfaction of baking. That led me back to the kitchen. However, I wanted to improve my skills and expand my knowledge, so I quit my nine to five job and enrolled in pastry school. This is what led me to the world of One Girl Cookies.
